Its Raining......Feeling Happy???

Its raining heavy outside and I just love the rains. It can so easily make you forget all your worries for a few moments and make you cheerful when you are feeling low. Well it works like that on me... just wondering if it has the same effect on all of us or does it depend on one's personality!? There have been various research on the affect of weather and hours of the day and temperature etc on human mood and beahaviour and they all claim that weather does actually affect our mood. Please share your feelings associated with weather...does it affect your mood?? Do you also feel unreasonably sad during evening hours and cheerful in the morning??

A Dream

Strolling through the old memory lane
feeling the love once again
I heard what you did not ever say
But kept in your heart tucked away

A letter for me waiting to be opened and read
I followed the words to where they led
Met some smiles, some joys and some tears
A sweet saunter through the gone-by years

I touched you again for the very first time
And heard your voice like a singing chime
Lost in the land of dreams thinking of you
I open my eyes and my dream comes true

Happy Independence

Today "We....the People" of India are celebrating our 67th Independence Day. Wooah... that's a long time since the day we got our freedom from the British rule in 1947.

To me the Independence Day celebration memories are limited to my school only. As I never was an extrovert..I never participated in any other celebration outside school...such as the locality celebrations etc.

In school I always wanted to participate in different cultural activities whenever I got a chance mainly because of two reasons.....one.. I just loved to act and dance (though I was not very good at it) and two...it got me the always-so-welcome breaks form boring classes to go for the practice.

And Independence Day celebration was the most heartfelt one for me....well they gave me the "independence" from studies for a whole day at school! We used to go to a different venue outside the school where some other schools also used to come to participate in various cultural programs for the occasion. And unlike nowadays all inter-school activities didn't mean competition then. We just used to celebrate and enjoy the occasion together. I was all fun and laddoos.

Well, then I was a kid....with lesser knowledge of the "real" world outside...but now when I see the problems in sour society that only seems to grow bigger....such as female feoticide, oppression of women, increasing number of crime against women and children, deep rooted corruption, poverty which is ever growing (even after continuous efforts by our politicians to "Hatao" it), and many such issues they just make me feel anything but proud.

On the other hand I can't also ignore that India has made a remarkable progress in may other areas like we have made best progress in terms of sending children to school in the last five years, according to a recent report of the UNESCO. There have been drastic developments in infrastructure and Information Technology. But sending children to school is of no use if they get beaten up and harshly punished for trivial things which sometimes claim their life, as we often come to know through news. And again going to school would be of no use if there are no teachers to teach. According to a survey findings more than 25% teachers were found absent from work in primary schools in India.

Independence is when there is complete freedom of choice for each and every individual of the country. When there is no discrimination based on religion, region, cast, creed, sex, society and status. Independence is when every individual is allowed to choose what he/she wants to be, what they want to wear and how they want to live.

Independent society is one where the women feel safe and have the freedom to wear what they like and go where they want and when they want.

Independence is achieved when man, women, elders, disabled, children, poor, natives and visitors all are free form all fear, social restrictions and are allowed to breath in the air of freedom with equality.

I am sure we can achieve such an independence if we all strive to achieve the independence of our mind. A mind(set) that is free from obsolete social and cultural beliefs and practices. A mind that is free from gender bias, religious and cultural distances, self-pitying, and from the ideas of revenge and hatred.

With a hope in my heart for a better tomorrow and a pledge to make my own honest contributions to it I wish you all a very Happy Independence Day.

SHE IS IN ME..... AND YOU....

I knew her since I was born....and have been highly influenced with her personality ever since I got the intelligence to understand human nature, their perspective of life, their dreams and wishes and also their limitations, inabilities and their compulsions and obligations. She has always been determined about one thing....that she wants to see those who matter in her life to be successful and happy.

Yes she is like any other Indian women who is completely devoted to her family, did all that she "should" have done as a "good" daughter, sister, wife, daughter-in-law and mother. She also faced a lot of scarcities and many other problems in life but one thing that she never let go in life was hope and positive attitude.

She had and still have a few insecurities and doubts in her mind but she always push herself to gather more and more courage to deal with those insecurities and clear those doubts. And when I ever see her getting low in spirit I feel scary...as it always is to see your idol fall. But no...she will never fall....she will never give up on hope. No matter how badly the destiny played with her...no matter what all adversities she has faced in life..I hope she never forgets that she always showered love on people around her and always gave them hope...and it all has to and will come back to her.

So even if times are changing and priorities of people she loved the most are changing, and may be they cant share everything at all times with her....may be they can't spend lot of time with her....she must never ever forget that SHE still is the most important person in their lives. She will always be their priority....because the list begins only after her.

Keep Dreaming......

The days of childhood are so beautiful. So innocent, pure, and happy. Happy you stay even when there is no reason to be. Even when you have problems and pain, you manage to stay happy and calm. I think it is just because a child always have a dream in his heart of a better and comfortable tomorrow. A future that he is going to build himself one day. A future that has all the comfort and happiness he wants. It is this dream of a brighter tomorrow that keeps us going in our darker today.

But this dream and this hope has its place in a child's heart only...because as we grow-up slowly the difference between our today and tomorrow starts to decrease. And as we come closer to our dreamt tomorrow we realise that it is much different than what we had thought of. Though it does not happen to all the people...but i think it is the case with most of the dreamers. For as the saying goes,"dreams never come true."

The things and the kind of life, with all the luxury, luck, comfort and happiness, that we dream of, exists in dreams only. The real life with real people and real situations has a completely different face. Things are not always or absolutely the same as we want them to be.

No, I am not being a pessimist here and i am not saying that we should not dream and shouldn't be hopeful about our future...but i think we should have a sensibility to understand these differences between the real and the imagined life. Because life just cant be as smooth and sweet as it is in our dreams...and even if it is..we would be first ones to complain and say..."how boring this life is."

If we know this difference well and accept this fact then we will not get frustrated and sad if we don't have what we dreamt of. And it cant be said that our present is bad just because it is not exactly what we had in our mind. It is not bad or wrong...it is just different. And it will be what we make of it...good or bad, right or wrong, happy or sad. Because ultimately staying happy and contended with our life is in our own hands. Our true happiness lies within us. And again if we stay like a child at heart we can stay happy and calm, hoping and dreaming about a better tomorrow.

Life Has Much More ....

A few days back, the newspaper's headlines really disturbed me when I read about the incident that happened at one of Delhi's most prestigious universities, J.N.U. as we call it. A guy from the School of Languages had brutally attacked one of his classmates (a good friend ) and committed suicide by consuming a lethal chemical and slitting his own throat!
I know its not the first time that we have heard about an act of crime in a university campus but this kind of horrifying, brutal and vehement acts are still rare. It gets hard to put such acts of crime on the list of other hundreds of crimes reported everyday when the people involved are all well educated and supposedly mature and responsible individuals.

If the young generation, specially the educated lot, which we look up to for bringing all the necessary changes in our society, behave in such an immature and irresponsible manner then what hope do we have of creating a powerful, prosperous and peaceful nation. It is this very lot of young, educated, enthusiastic generation that can help to clean the political filth in our country that we hear about and discuss everyday. It is this generation that have the power of bringing about a change in the evil systems of the society. But unfortunately it is this very lot that succumbs to its fake egos, anger, lust and greed.

How can we let our emotions take control of our actions to an extend that we completely forget about its impact on the lives of others associated with us. Though it is natural to feel anger and frustration when you are betrayed, deserted or cheated  by someone, but resorting to criminal activities to take a revenge on someone is not an answer. An educated mind should be free of such weaknesses as these and should be groomed in such a manner so it can enable us to deal with all the difficult situations in our lives rationally and sanely.

The most shocking part of the whole news for me was the fact reported that the boy was fully equipped with three or four different kinds of weapon to make sure that his intentions are carried out without fail.
Such a planning and preparations to get himself equipped with all those lethal weapons must have taken a few days and that makes it clear that it was not a case of sudden rage and anger. The boy must have pictured the whole incident in is mind many a times before he actually did it and it is shocking and scary that the horror and gruesomeness of the act did not divert him from actually doing it.

I am not being judgmental about the boy, neither I have any idea what exactly went wrong between those two people that prompted this crime, all I want to say is that whatever he did must not have got any solution to any problem. It only ended one good life and shattered the other. Why is it so that when we start giving importance to one aspect of our life we forget the importance of our life in itself?

How can anything in life get bigger than the life itself? And if it has to be that way for you.....let it be some noble cause, something that is beneficial to at least one single soul on this earth to take a higher place than your life itself.
